CUHK 2022 Fall early admission
The summer camp of the Department of Physics of The Chinese University of Hong Kong is about to start (early admission for 2022 Fall Ph.D./Master’s program), and the application will close on June 25, 2021. The summer camp includes lectures, lab tours, experience sharing and admission interview (Zoom-based).

- Recommendation letter from two referees, to be sent directly by the referees via e-mail to pgadm@phy.cuhk.edu.hk.
- Optional: certificate of prizes/awards, etc. English Proficiency requirement is not needed for now (but you need to reach TOEFL 79 or IELTS 6.5, etc. before admission)

- Invitation to Zoom interview will be emailed on June 30
- Formal Zoom interview on July 6-8.

Brief Description of the PhD program
PhD students need to choose preferred advisors during application (see links for theory and experiments projects, my projects are T17 and T18). PhD Students without a master degree are expected to graduate in four years (12 unites of course work, about 4 courses). Those with a master degree are expected to graduate in three years. Fees and financial support are as follows:
- Postgraduate studentship: 18,025 HKD (around 2323 USD) per month with medial insurance. Particularly outstanding ones can get 26,600 HKD (around 3430 USD) per month (HKPFS awardees)
- Accommodations provided by CUHK cost 1,800 to 3,700 HKD per month
- Tuition fee: 42,100 HKD (local or HKPFS awardees free of tuition)

About the CUHK
The Chinese University of Hong Kong sits on a hill in the northeast part of the New Territories, occupying an area of over 130 hectares and commanding a scenic view of Tolo Harbor. Since its inception, it has adopted bilingualism and biculturalism as the basis of its teaching, emphasizing both Chinese and English languages and Eastern and Western cultures. Public transportation
Hong Kong has a well-developed public transport network comprising the Mass Transit Railway (MTR), extensive bus routes, minibuses, trams and ferries. The University is right at a major station (the University Station) of MTR. Details can be checked at GovHK.
Campus transportation
CUHK offers free “Shuttle Bus” service for CUHK students and staff to commute within campus. Most of the bus routes operate during daytime from Mondays to Saturdays. Students and staff can also take “Meet-Class Shuttle Bus” to various academic buildings during teaching days.
Physics Department
The physics department is located in Science Centre which is at the central part of the campus. Walking between Science Centre and the University Station (MTR station) takes about 15-20 minutes.
Dining on Campus
There are over 10 dining places on campus. The two nearest ones are the canteen in the Choh-Ming Li Basic Medical Sciences Building and the restaurant complex in Benjamin Franklin Centre.
About Hong Kong
Hong Kong is situated at the southeastern tip of the mainland of China. Chinese and English are the official languages. Hong Kong has a subtropical climate: humid in spring and summer, with temperatures rarely dipping below 10℃ (50 Fahrenheit) in winter.
COVID and entry limit
Hong Kong is transparent about every COVID cases, checkout the dashboard for the current cases. Tourists are banned from travel. However, essential travels (e.g. study/work) are still allowed. Those who can enter Hong Kong are required to be tested negative for PCR, and typically needs to quarantine for one to three weeks depending on where you come from, etc.
